[파리=신화통신/] 유네스코의 집행위원회는 5일(수) 투표에서 팔레스타인의 정회원 가입을 승인하였다고 외교소식통이 전했다.

유네스코 집행위원회의 58개국 중에서 40개국이 당일의 미국, 독일을 위시한 4개국의 거부권행사와 14개국의 기권을 누르고 가입신청을 승인했다고 신화통신에 한 외교소식통이 전했다.

국제기구 내에서 팔레스타인의 옵저버 국가라는 현 지위에서부터 정회원으로 격상할 것을 아랍 국가들이 최근 제안했다.

팔레스타인은 집행위원회가 오는 25일부터 11월 10일까지 파리 본부에서 소집되는 유네스코 총회 193개 회원국중 참석국의 2/3의 비준을 받기까지는 정회원자격을 획득하지 못하게 됐다.

유네스코 내에서 팔레스타인의 회원국 지위에 대하여 질문을 받은 프랑스 외무장관은 5일 뉴욕에 있는 유엔본부에서 유사한 논의가 진행되고 잇는 마당에 동일한 이슈를 취급한다는 것은 적합하지 않다고 답변했다.

팔레스타인자치정부는 올해 유엔 회원국 자격을 인정받기 위해 유엔 및 유엔 관련 기구에서 많은 노력을 기울여왔다. 가장 최근의 활동은 9월하반기에 개회된 66차 유엔총회에서 회원국 가입신청을 제출한 것이었다.

프랑스 외무성 대변인은“가장 중요한 일은 협상을 재개하는 일”이라고 강조하면서, “우리들은 유네스코가 적합한 토론장도 아니고, 지금은 대토론회가 필요한 시기도 아니라고 믿는다”라고 매듭을 지었다.

PARIS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The executive council of UN cultural organization UNESCO voted Wednesday to allow a Palestinian membership, according to diplomatic sources.

Some 40 out of 58 members of UNESCO executive council voted for the proposal against four vetos including that　　　from the United States and Germany. Fourteen members abstained 　　　　from the vote on the day, a diplomatic source told Xinhua.

Arab countries have recently proposed to upgrade the status of Palestine in the UN organization to member state 　　　　from present status of observer state.

Palestine will not get the member state status until the approval of the executive council wins ratification of at least two thirds of all UNESCO 193 members which are due to meet for the general conference 　　　from Oct. 25 to Nov. 10 at its Paris headquarters.

When asked about the membership of Palestine in UNESCO, French foreign ministry on Wednesday said it was not proper to discuss this issue while similar talks at the UN headquarters in New York is going on.

Palestinian authority has intensified its effort for statehood representation in the United Nations and its branches since this year. The latest move was presenting its statehood bid to the 66th session of the UN General Assembly starting in late September.

Stressing "the priority is to resume negotiations," French ministry spokesman said, "we believe that UNESCO is not the appropriate forum and that the General Conference is not the time."
