[카이로=신화통신/] 한 콥트 교회에 대한 공격을 비난하는 콥트교회 시위자들이 9일(일) 카이로에서 보안부대와 충돌한 사고로 17명이 사망하고 140명이 중경상을 입었다고 이집트 국영TV가 보도하였다.

시위대들은 이집트 국영TV 건물의 정면에 있는 대로를 봉쇄하고 진압 군경부대에 돌과 화염 병을 투척하였다. 인근 주차 차량 일부가 불에 탔다. 국영TV는 이전에 3명의 병사가 시위대들의 발표에 의해 사망했다고 발표문을 냈었다. 보안군대가 시위대들을 강제해산시켰다

에삼 샤라프 이집트 수상이 성명서를 내고 이 폭력행위를 규탄했으며 이집트 국민들로 하여금 소요사태를 일으키는 어떤 시도에 대해서도 대항해 연대할 것을 지시했다. 수천명의 콥트 기독교도들은 이날 저녁 아스완주의 아스타파 엘-사예드 지사가 아스완 주의 마리나프 촌에 있는 한 교회를 공격한 데 대해 책임 지고 사임할 것을 요구하며 마스페로 TV건물을 향해 행진했다

엘 사예드 지사는 시골의 콥트교회 신도수는 적고, 2KM 떨어진 곳에 교회가 있으므로 그들을 위한 교회를 건축할 가치가 없다고 최근 말한 사실이 이 콥트 교회 신도들을 분노하게 했다.

그 마을의 콥트 기독교인들은 공식적인 건축허가를 받지 않고 한 낡은 건물을 교회로 재건축했는데 이것이 그 마을의 회교도 주민들을 격분시켜 그 교회를 무너뜨릴 시도를 하게 됐다. 그 사건은 두 종교 그룹 간의 새로운 긴장관계를 조성했다. 일단의 회교도들이 9월 30일 금요예배가 끝난 후 그 콥트 교회를 부수기 위해 출발했다.

작은 벽과 두 개의 시멘트 기둥이 파괴된 이후 보안부대들이 저지를 했다. 시위대들은 교회를 파괴하려고 시도했던 범죄자들을 투옥시킬 것이며, 현재 국내에서 예배처를 건설하는 두 종교의 요건들이 차별화되어 있는 것을 개정해, 동등한 권리보장 법안을 만들라고 요구했다. 이집트 총인구의 약 10%가 콥트 기독교인들이다.

장악한 지역에서는 콥트 기독교도들과 회교도들 사이에 회교도들 사이에 교회 건축 혹은 다른 문제들로 인하여 수시로 긴장관계가 계속되어 왔었다.

CAIRO, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Seventeen people were killed and about 140 others injured Sunday in Cairo in clashes between security forces and Coptic Christians protesting against an attack on a church, state TV reported.
Protesters blocked a street in front of Egypt's state television building and threw stones and bottles at soldiers and police. Some cars nearby were set on fire.

The state TV had previously said three soldiers were shot dead by protesters. Security forces were forced to disperse the demonstrators.

In a statement, Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf condemned the violence and urged Egyptians to keep united against attempts to 　create chaos.

Thousands of Coptic Christians marched towards the television building Maspero on Sunday evening, demanding that Aswan provincial governor Moustafa el-Sayed step down over attacks on a church in the Marinap village in Aswan.

 El-Sayed said recently that the number of Copts in the village is small so that it's not worth building a church for them because there is a church two kilometers away, which angered the Copts.

The Copts in the village rebuilt an old building into a church with no official permission, which angered the village's Muslim residents who attempted to destroy the church. The incident caused new tension between the two religious 　groups.

A 　group of Muslims started to demolish the church after Friday prayers on Sept. 30. The security forces interfered after a small wall and two cement pillars were destroyed.

The protesters urged to bring the criminals who tried to destroy the church to jail, and make a law to provide equal rights on building worshipping houses for the two religious 　groups who currently need to meet different requirements when building their own worshipping places in the country.

Copts account for about one tenth of Egypt's total population. There has been sporadic tension between Coptic Christians and Muslims over the building of churches or other affairs in the Muslim-dominated country.
