[리우데자네리우=신화통신/] 브라질의 지우마 호세프 대통령은 24일(현지시각) 네그로강 아마존 열대우림지역을 건너는 제일 긴 교량을 개통했다. 

최장 3,595m인 이 다리는 거대한 아마존 열대우림지대 강을 건너서 지어진 최초의 다리이기도 하다. 이것은 아마조나스 주의 주도인 마나우스와 아라두바 시를 연결시켜 준다.

이 다리는 마나우스 건설 342주년 기념으로 개통되었다. 지난 해 12월 공직에서 물러난 이루이즈 이나시오 룰라 다 실바 전 브라질대통령도 이 기념 개통식에 참석했다.

룰라 전 대통령은 그 지역 사람들이 늦어도 호세프 현 대통령 임기 말까지는, 지난해 선거에서 그녀를 대통령으로 선출한 것이 의의가 깊은 일이었던 것을 깨달아 알게 될 것이라면서 그의 후임 대통령을 칭송하는 말을 했다.

다리의 건설은 룰라 대통령 두 번째 임기 중 착수했으며 1조 990억 헤알화 (미화 6억 2,800만불 상당)의 비용이 소요되었다. 교량은 브라질개발은행과 그 지역 주정부에서 기금을 대었다.

교량건설의 높은 비용이 네티즌들의 비판을 받았는데, 24일 그 돈이 교육이나 혹은 다른 유용한 부문들에 사용되어졌어야 했다고 옥신각신 몇 차례 논쟁이 있었다.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on Monday inaugurated a bridge crossing the Negro River, the longest bridge in the Amazon Rainforest region to date.
 

The 3,595-meter-long bridge is also the first to be built over a large Amazon Rainforest river. It connects the capital of Amazonas state, Manaus, to the town of Iranduba. The bridge was inaugurated on the 342nd anniversary of Manaus' founding.

Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who left office last December, also attended the inauguration ceremony.

Lula praised his successor and said the region's people will find out, by the end of Rousseff's term, that voting for her in the 2010 elections was worth it.

The construction of the bridge started during Lula's second presidential term, and cost 1.099 billion reais (628 million U.S.dollars).The bridge was funded by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and the state government.

The high cost of the bridge was criticized by netizens, with several arguing on Monday that the money should have been spent in other sectors, such as education.
